8/11/18 - Addison Garden Dig

Date: 8/11/18
Location:

Addison Display Garden  - no street address.

It is next to the dog park that is on the south side of the office park at the rear of the buildings at the power lines on Midway Rd at Proton.

Call 972-816-3418 if you need help finding it.

FYI - Sale set-up will be August 17th at 6:00 PM at the church.  Member volunteers needed.

Members and anyone interested.

If you have never dug and divided large clumps of iris, this is an opportunity to learn how to do it.

The dig will start at first light (around 6:30 AM) to avoid as much heat of the day as possible.  The goal is 1000 rhizomes.   Plants will be dug and placed in labeled sacks. These will then go to people who will trim and label each rhizome with the cultivar's name.  At the end of the dig, those sacks will go home with various members who will wash and dry the rhizomes and bring them to either the sale set-up on the 17th or before 8AM to sale on the 18th.

Bring digging tools, gloves, etc if you are digging

Bring a lawn chair, scissors, etc. if you are trimming/labeling

Everyone - hats, sunscreen, etc.

Water will be furnished.

The American Iris Society (AIS) is the parent organization behind all the affiliated iris clubs in The USA and Canada.

It provides a wealth of information on all types of irises, the registry of all irises registered and introduced in North America, sets standards and requirements for training iris judges, oversees the AIS awards system, publishes a beautiful quarterly full color bulletin, and provided many other services for members and the affiliated clubs.

Come explore the AIS with us.

In addition, Bonnie Nichols, President of the Novelty Iris Society, a section of the AIS, will tell us all about those iris types that are not traditional - the Space Agers (with horns and flounces), Broken Colors (irregularly splattered with a 2nd color), Flatties (irises with no upright petals), and more.
